"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Creativity is important for almost everybody, from artists to CEOs. It's what allows you to create new things, come up with new ideas, or come up with effective solutions to tricky problems. People need to get creative for various reasons, but creativity itself, as a process, remains pretty much the same no matter what sort of task you are applying it to. Whether you are trying to write a book or decorate your living room, here are five tips that can help you get more creative:

1) Realize That You Are Capable of Creativity

Human beings are created in the image of the creative God who created us, meaning that we are all intrinsically creative creatures as well. This lesson is firmly taught to us in an encouraging spiritual quote from Ephesians 2:10:

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Some people mistakenly think that they just aren't the creative type because they never had much flair for the artistic. However, the truth is that creativity comes in many forms, and is not limited to acts of painting and writing. Everyone has the capacity to be creative, especially in regards to something that they are passionate about.

2) Set Some Limits

People also mistakenly think that true creativity is necessarily boundless and completely free. This might work for some, but others find that they simply end up dealing with too much when they have absolutely no limits. For example, when writing a story, try to focus on one theme or one section of the text at a time rather than trying to think about and deal with everything at once.

3) Consider Every Idea at First - No Matter How Absurd

You will probably never end up using every idea that pops into your mind when you brainstorm, but you should not write off an idea completely until you've had time to look it over once more. You will be surprised at the gems you can find by slightly altering ideas that at first may have seemed too absurd or unrealistic.

4) Believe In Your Ideas

Tying into the point above, you also need to build your confidence and believe in your ideas. If you do, not then you will likely never take that second look at something which at first seemed silly but could later have turned out to be useful. Creativity cannot flourish if you knock your ideas before they even have time to take shape.

5) Set Aside Time

There is a misconception that creativity which is not spontaneous is not real creativity, but this is not necessarily always or even often the case. Most people's lives are too busy for them to follow up on a spontaneous creative impulse the moment it happens. If you want to get creative, then you need to commit some time to letting yourself get away from it all, sit down, and think.

You already have what it takes in order to come up with useful and unique ideas. Now you just need to cultivate the right attitude that will allow that spark of creativity to come out. Follow the five tips above and your God-given creativity will get its chance to shine.
