"The LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'"

Many married Christian couples realize that their marriage is a blessing from God, but often have a hard time feeling God's presence in the daily workings of their marriage. It can be easy, after a while, to take your union for granted and forget what it truly means in the context of the Christian faith. Choosing to welcome God back into your marriage can help you feel more connected with your spouse and with your faith.

God is always waiting to be invited into our lives. Make the effort to see God in the design of your marriage, look to God to sustain your marriage, and trust God to improve your marriage, and you will be blown away by what He has to offer you in return.

Seeing God in the Design of Your Marriage

"The LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'" (Genesis 2:18)

God establishes marriage at the very beginning of the Bible, which is why it has been such a major part of the Christian faith throughout history. Recognizing that your marriage is a reflection of one of God's fist decisions regarding humankind can help you see it for the sacred union that it is.

Looking to God for the Sustainment of Your Marriage

Since God is the designer of marriage, He is also the one that can sustain and strengthen a marriage. A good way to receive God's strength and guidance is to turn to scripture. Proverbs in particular is a fantastic scriptural source for spiritually inspirational and motivating quotes which can provide you with important insight into your marriage. Proverbs 24:3, for example, tells us that "by wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established." Wisdom and understanding ultimately come to us from God, and so we must turn to Him in order to build and establish our home.

Trusting God to Improve Your Marriage

Christians are called to place all their trust in God, and so this must necessarily include trusting God with all your dreams and hopes for your marriage. God has always prepared the best road for us, and we are welcome to embark on it as long as we open ourselves up enough to His loving guidance. It may be difficult to let go and stop trusting only in yourself, but, if you ever need to be reminded of God's commitment to you, just remember this verse from Jeremiah 29:11:

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

If your marriage was never Christ-centered to begin with, or if it has simply lost its connection to God over the years, then now is the time to reawaken your spiritual lives as a couple. Work together to help motivate each other and inspire one another to put God at the center of your relationship, and both your faith and your marriage will blossom.

Spiritual Prayer

You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart toward You.  And You have shown him great kindness in giving him a son to sit on his throne this day.  Now, O Lord, my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David and I am still a little child and do not know how to go out or to come in.  And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, so numerous that they can not be numbered or counted.  Give Your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and bad, for who is able to judge among so great a people?
