Your family is the most important group of people in your life. Though families can squabble and fight and get on each other's nerves, most know that they will always be there for each other in times of need. In Philippians 2:3-4 we are instructed to: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
One of the ultimate goals of any Christian should be learning to love others and to put their interests ahead of our own as described in the inspiring Biblical verse above. The first place where anyone learns the sort of selfless behavior is within the family unit. We are all naturally predisposed towards caring for and helping our family members, and so spending time with family can help us develop our ability to put others first.

You may ultimately be bonded by blood, but it is very possible for family members to grow apart. You do not want to look up one day and realize that your parent, child, or sibling has become a stranger. Spending quality time together will help foster the emotional bonds needed to keep you feeling connected.

Children that come from close-knit families tend to have less behavioral problems at school and in their social lives. Knowing that there are people in their lives who love them and care about what happens to them makes children much less likely to act out.
- Academic Success
Children whose parents are involved in their lives also experience greater academic success. Parental involvement helps by making sure that children are keeping up with schoolwork and performing at the level that is expected of them. It also helps children feel less stressed and more confident in their abilities to achieve academically.
- Increased Closeness to God
Henry Drummond once said that "the family circle is the supreme conductor of Christianity." This inspiring quote illustrates that fact that it is within the family that the Christian faith is passed on. No matter how often a family goes to church, Christianity is practiced mainly in the home. Families that pray together and discuss faith together often feel a much greater sense of closeness to God.
The family was created by God to provide each human being with a ready-made network of close relationships. Your relationships with your family should be cherished and nourished. By spending quality time together, you can help ensure that every family member is getting the love and attention that they need in order to find happiness and fulfillment in their own lives.
