"Intuition is a spiritual faculty that does not explain but simply points the way."

Spiritual Wellness

What is the third eye? Many people rely upon it and even more people do not know what it is. So let's briefly define it first. The third eye is essentially a primary way to access your Higher Self. The Higher Self is generally defined in spiritual encouragement quotes as the person's soul, which is resident in spirit at all times and oversees the person's life to the extent that the past, present, and future are all equally visible on that spiritual realm.

The Higher Self does not make decisions or choices, but, when sought, can provide advice. It can be thought of as your intuition and, as Florence Shinn explained, "Intuition is a spiritual faculty that does not explain but simply points the way." Your Higher Self's advice, if taken, will lead to your best growth toward wholeness and healing. It's not all about the self either. Appropriate aid for others and the world is offered through the Higher Self as well, with the caveat that no unsought intersession can be accessed for someone else if such intersession has the intention of controlling the other person or of interfering with their privacy.

Felt to be located just above the brow line in the middle of the forehead, some people become so adept with its use that a simple tap to the spot or crossing their eyes gives them immediate access to its potential.

So how in the world does a person use this invisible third eye? First of all, know that this is not simply a special talent awarded to psychics. Everyone has this, whether they know it or not.

In order to gain the aid of the third eye to help in your daily life, here are a few things you may expect once you feel connected to this faculty: Help in making better choices, help in seeing the possible effects of different choices, and instantaneous guidance on such things as directions, timing, safety, memory and finding lost items. It is also possible to receive prescient information concerning world or local events that may affect those you care about or yourself.

In light of this information, below are three possible ways to develop your ability to wake up your third eye and make it as much a part of you as is any other sense you possess.

1) Meditation

Meditation helps us to empty the constant random mental chatter and to also eliminate the distractions of the outward sense of things. When we are mentally quiet, we are able to sense the things of spirit. Within the calm of mediation, it is possible to look toward spirit for answers as well as to access a more perfect prayer channel.

2) Ritual

Ritual is something that is best designed by the individual with intent and focus on a particular goal. With the goal of opening and seeing with the third eye, one might wish to include some of the following elements: a candle, a crystal, incense, a comfortable place to sit, and the intention to begin to see what the eye cannot see, but what your Higher Self can witness.

3) Pendulum or Dowsing

With the use of a pendulum, once you are in a quiet place both inwardly and outwardly, it is important to call upon an angel or spirit guide that is entrusted with your highest good to come and guide you to the wisdom you seek. Asking yes and no questions is the easiest way to begin with this method.

All of these methods have a learning curve to some extent, but usually begin to have results quickly. Before engaging in any of them, a prayer to remove doubts and to eliminate self-deception and fear is important to ensure your ability to make this connection with your innate abilities.

Most of us are taught from childhood to ignore our instincts, our visions, and our 'so-called' imaginary friends. These aspects of our innocent young selves should actually be cherished and looked upon as natural and important. When we nurture our abilities and guide them into helpful channels we can become more fully who we truly are.

Some Christians may be uneasy at the prospect of opening their third eye, considering it to be a sort of occult practice. However, what we need to understand is that all this is meant to be is a way for greater access to our God-given soul.  Although some may come from different traditions, they can still aid in personal spiritual growth.

Spiritual Prayer

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
