"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy." (Psalm 96:11-12)

You do not need large fields with ample room in order to take up gardening. You can start a garden in your own backyard or even on your balcony. But why would you even want to take up gardening? Well, the benefits of gardening are as numerous as the many different types of seeds you could plant. For the sake of simplicity and brevity, however, let's take a look at four main reasons why gardening might be the perfect hobby for you:

- It can help you feel closer to God

God created the world. He causes the sun to shine and the ocean to swell with water. He brought forth all of the plants that grow on the surface of the earth. Gardening can help bring you closer to this reality, and to catch a glimpse of some of the wonder of creation. Watching a plant grow before your eyes will make your heart rejoice for the creator that causes all things to grow. The author of the Psalms knew this feeling well, giving us this beautiful, spiritually inspiring verse about creation's love for God:

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy." (Psalm 96:11-12)

- You will grow some of your own food

One of the most rewarding aspects of gardening is that you get so much back for the effort you put in. Gardening allows you to grow some of your own food in exactly the way you want to grow it. Even a fairly large garden might not save you all of your trips to the grocery store, but it will help you save some money on vegetables and herbs.

- It will allow you to challenge yourself

Gardening can be a challenge, but it is always going to be a very worthwhile one. It will require substantial time, effort, and reading on your part in order to figure out how best to grow certain plants and how to solve certain issues, but finding the solution will be extremely rewarding.

- It will help you relax

Though gardening has its challenging moments, it can be a very relaxing hobby the rest of the time. Watering, weeding, trimming, and otherwise tending to your garden can be quite a meditative experience, and you will begin to look forward to these activities at the end of a long and stressful day.

Remember that gardening is a hobby that almost everyone can pick up. If you've got soil, water, sunlight, and a lawn or some potters, then you can grow anything you set your mind to. Start small with a few herbs and work your way up as you fine-tune your green thumb. Watching plants grow and blossom and knowing that you are the reason why will give you a greater sense of accomplishment than you will be able to find in almost any other hobby.

Spiritual Prayer

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people,  I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.  I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
