Do not neglect the discipline of sleep, "for God gives rest to his loved ones" (Psalm 127:2, NLT).

Spiritual Wellness

Physical and mental fatigue can have a detrimental effect on your faith. As Christian author and pastor John Ortberg has explained, "Sleep is a gift from God." Indeed, Ortberg suggests that, at any given time, taking a nap might be the most spiritual thing you could do. Learning to relax and get a good sleep is a spiritual discipline. Adjusting your schedule, listening to calming music, and learning to trust God rather than constantly worrying can enhance your sleep, as can your choice of bedding.

Consider satin sheets. Just about everyone has heard of satin sheets and how great they feel, but an unfortunately small number of people have been able to enjoy these sheets for themselves. For a long time, only the wealthy could afford satin and it was generally used to make clothing items. But now satin is easy to acquire and can be made out of many different materials. What the sheets are made of will dictate how much they cost.

When most people think of satin sheets, they think of either the very rich or lovers in the bedroom. True, many people pull out satin sheets when they feel like having a romantic evening, but there is no reason why satin sheets should not be enjoyed all the time.

With the low cost of satin sheets, you can sleep on them every night and not feel guilty. Sure, some of the more expensive satin sheets that are made of special materials can easily cost you over $300, but if you just want the cool slipperiness of satin, polyester satin works just fine. At some stores, these do not cost any more than traditional sheets. (Expensive sheets are probably priced that way for a reason, though, so do not think that all satin sheets are the same.)

The difference in your cleaning bill will probably be a major deciding factor. Traditional satin sheets snag easily and the finish will be ruined by household cleaning methods. Instead, they have to be sent to cleaners to be cleaned properly. If you want satin sheets that are low-maintenance, try a polyester blend that can be tossed into the washer and dryer when they need cleaning. They do not snag as easy as others and, if they do, they are inexpensive enough to replace.

Satin sheets are great for individuals who overheat frequently when trying to sleep. Satin is cool to the touch and disperses heat quickly. Satin also does a great job of wicking moisture away from the skin. This makes satin sheets excellent for hot summer nights, and many people continue using them year-round. With proper care, satin sheets should last many years.

Satin sheets can be obtained in a wide range of colors. Some are all-time favorites, but--if you want a particular color--you can probably find it. For something really striking, you can get a patterned or metallic sheet set. Patterned sets can have animal, floral, or geometric print. Metallic sheets have even more shimmer to them and can be purchased in bronze, silver, and other colors.

Many stores carry satin sheets. Large department stores that carry bedding will often have at least a couple options, but the best place to find options is at a store that specializes in satin. There are many such stores online, allowing you to pick out the aspects of the sheets that you need.

Of course, satin sheets do not make a person spiritual, nor does any other product you could purchase. The body and spirit are intricately linked, however, meaning a good night's sleep can make you more receptive to the Spirit's prodding, more able to resist temptation, and better equipped to grow in your knowledge of God. Do not neglect the discipline of sleep, "for God gives rest to his loved ones" (Psalm 127:2, NLT).

Spiritual Prayer

Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.  How long will you people turn my glory into shame?  How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?  Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him. Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.  Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the Lord.  Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us.
Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
