"He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land."
"He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land-- the LORD is his name."
- Amos 5:8
Many people find that, when they go out into nature, they experience the feeling of reverence for God which is so eloquently described in the spiritually inspiring Bible verse above. They see God in the stars, in the rising and the setting sun, and in the swelling waters of the ocean. If these feelings often inspire you to go for a romp in the wilderness, then you might wish that you also had a furry friend to bring along and share the moment with.
The right dog can make your time out in nature that much more enjoyable. However, while all dogs love to go on walks, some are much more cut out for the outdoors than others. The following four breeds are particularly well-suited for the outdoorsy lifestyle.
1) Siberian Husky
The beautiful Siberian Husky is the quintessential outdoor dog. However, because of their thick and dense coats, Siberian Huskies are best suited to colder climates. They are often bred to be sled dogs because they have the sort of boundless energy that is needed for the job. Siberian Huskies are smart, resourceful, and can be taken on long and difficult hikes.
2) Labrador Retriever
If you like spending time around lakes and rivers, then a Labrador Retriever is probably the dog you want. These friendly, playful, and adventurous dogs have webbed toes and are fantastic swimmers. If you do choose to get a Lab, then you need to make sure that you really do have the sort of lifestyle that can provide enough exercise, as they can experience weight gain and health problems from sedentary lifestyles.
3) Bernese Mountain Dog
As per its suitable name, the Bernese Mountain Dog is the perfect breed to take with you out on a hike through the mountains. These dogs are loyal, good natured, easy to train, and will stick close to you when out on the trail. The Bernese Mountain Dog is quite a large breed, so make sure that your tent is big enough to accommodate everyone if you plan on going camping.
4) Vizsla
Vizslas are incredibly high-energy dogs that were originally used in Hungary as hunting dogs because of their ability to run for several miles at a time. They require ample exercise, so make sure that you can provide it. Vizslas are very loyal, and while they might explore areas around the path, they will make sure to always stick close by.
No matter which furry companion you choose, make sure that you show them the love and attention that all of God's creatures deserve. Take good care of them and train them well, and you will always have a friend to accompany you and your family members into the great outdoors.
Spiritual Prayer
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
