Women
If you need encouragement to forgive your mother or your daughter, then look no further than the inspirational words of Jesus in Matthew 6:14.
The mother-daughter bond is one of the most important relationships in a woman's life. A typical young woman's relationship with her mother can be somewhat turbulent throughout the teenage years, but by their late teens to early twenties many women find that their mother has become one of their closest friends and confidants. If you are fortunate enough to have your mother or your daughter in your life, then you should never let this relationship slip away.
Whether your relationship needs some serious repair, or if you are already close but would like to get even closer, here are four suggestions to help you strengthen your mother-daughter bond:
1) Talk more
It is hard for any sort of relationship to survive without devoting enough time to actually sitting down and speaking with the other person. Love, trust, loyalty, and respect are definitely more important than how much you have to say to each other, but all of those components of a relationship can slowly fade if neither one of you makes the effort to have a real heart-to-heart sometimes. Mothers and daughters need to be able to talk openly to one another if they want to have a positive influence on each other's lives.
2) Accept your differences
One of the biggest sources of tension in any mother-daughter relationship are differences in opinions, values, and personalities. Daughters often come to resent their mothers for trying to mold them into a younger version of themselves, while mothers have a hard time understanding their daughter's need to be different and find their own identity. It is important that you accept each other's differences of opinions, values, and personal tastes, and learn to love each other not despite those differences, but because of them.
3) Forgive each other
The differences described above can often lead to disagreements, and these disagreements can in turn create long-term conflict and resentment. Forgiveness is a huge part of being able to move past these conflicts and have a hope of moving forward. Scripture teaches us that God expects us to forgive others just as he always forgives us. If you need encouragement to forgive your mother or your daughter, then look no further than the inspirational words of Jesus in Matthew 6:14. "For if you forgive others their trespasses," he teaches us, "your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
4) Ask God for guidance
Christians are always encouraged to turn to prayer and scripture when they have questions or problems in their lives. If you sincerely want to improve your relationship with your mother or daughter, then make sure you express your desire in your prayers and spend some time with the Bible every day. God will reveal the right path for you as long as you are willing to listen.
The mother-daughter bond can withstand just about anything, but does still need to be nourished and looked after if it is going to remain a strong and important part of your life. If the two of you talk more, accept each other's differences, forgive each other for past wrongs, and turn to God for guidance, then you will be able to see your relationship grow to its fullest potential.
Spiritual Prayer
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
